How do you use a plastic test jar with a hydrometer?
Fill the jar with enough liquid that the hydrometer floats freely without touching the bottom or sides. Give the hydrometer a gentle spin to knock off any air bubbles and let it settle. Then read the scale at eye level, right where the liquid surface meets the stem.
- Note the temperature: Hydrometer readings shift with sample temperature, so measure it and correct your reading with your hydrometer's chart.
