Good to know
Some distillers want to build the instrument as well as play it. This Paul Revere 20 oz, 22-gauge copper sheet measures 36 x 96 inches (3' x 8'), exactly the kind of stock you need if you plan to build your own copper still.
Is 22-gauge copper sheet good for a DIY still?
The 20 oz weight is the same weight of Paul Revere copper we use to build our own stills. It has enough body to form into a pot, cap or thumper while still being workable in a home shop.
- Brand-new sheet: 20 oz, 22-gauge, 36 x 96 inches.
- Rolled for packing: each sheet is rolled to fit an 18 x 18 x 36 inch box, so plan to unroll and flatten it before you mark your cuts.
- Why copper: it spreads heat well and reacts with sulfur compounds in the vapor, which is a big reason copper has been the still maker's metal for centuries.
- Delivery area: we ship to the 48 contiguous states. In Alaska, Hawaii or another country? Send us your address and we'll quote you shipping.
Turning a flat sheet into a working still is real alchemy: metal, heat and patience becoming something that separates vapor. Sketch your pattern first, measure twice, and use lead-free solder on every joint. Owning a still is legal in the US, but making spirits requires federal TTB permits. Plenty of builders use their stills for water, essential oils or fuel alcohol, and the sheet works for other copper projects too.
