Good to know
A 10 gallon copper still with thumper and worm is where many home distillers run their first real experiments. The Perfect 10 is our version of that first step. We cut it from 20 oz., 22 gauge copper that we buy directly from Paul Revere Copper Co. We never use cheap roofing copper, which can contain lead. The kit comes complete, down to a shirt and hat for the person running it.
Is a 10 gallon copper still with thumper a good beginner setup?
Yes. Ten gallons is big enough to learn how heat, vapor and cuts behave, and small enough to handle on your own. The thumper adds a second stage of vapor contact, and the worm condenses that vapor back into liquid, so you see the whole process from pot to jar. It also works well as a dedicated spirit still. If you'd rather heat with electricity than a flame, we can add a 110 volt electric option. Just ask.
- Heavy copper: 20 oz., 22 gauge sheet holds its shape and spreads heat evenly across the pot, run after run.
- Why copper: copper reacts with sulfur compounds in the vapor. That's why traditional stills have been made from it for centuries.
- Simple care: rinse with hot water after each run and let everything dry fully. A vinegar or citric acid wash brings the shine back.
- Legal uses: owning a still is legal in the US. You can use it to distill water, extract essential oils or make fuel alcohol. Making spirits requires federal TTB permits.
Have questions about sizing, heat sources or the electric add-on? Contact us and we'll talk it through with you before you buy, so your first run feels like a planned experiment and not a guess.
