Handy with a torch? The you-solder 4-inch quick-clamp cap kit for copper moonshine stills lets you upgrade the still you already own and save by doing the install yourself. It's the 4-inch quick-clamp distillers have been asking for.
How hard is it to solder this quick-clamp cap onto my still?
We've already attached the copper to the stainless, so the hard joint is done. What's left is soldering copper to copper on your existing still, a job many hobbyists can handle. If you'd like to talk through your still's opening before you start, contact us.
- Materials: food grade stainless steel with 20 oz, 22-gauge copper.
- No more paste: retire messy wheat or flour paste for good.
- Fewer blowouts: a pressure blowout mid-run can spill wash down a hot pot and lead to fire or even an explosion. A solid seal adds a margin of safety.
- Saves time and money: faster setup and teardown on every run, and you skip paying for installation.
Soldering your own fitting is a satisfying bit of metalwork, a little alchemy before the first run even starts. Clean and flux the joint well, use a lead-free solder suited to food contact, and test for leaks with water before you put heat to it. Owning a still is legal in the US; making spirits requires federal TTB permits. Stills are also used for distilled water, essential oils and fuel alcohol.
